Швеция пообещала властям Турции безвизовый режим и таможенный союз с Евросоюзом в обмен на членство в НАТО. Об этом заявил генсек Североатлантического альянса Йенс Столтенберг, передает ТАСС.

По словам Столтенберга, власти Швеции «пообещали приложить активные усилия, интенсифицировать процесс приема Турции в ЕС», а также оказать протекцию с модернизацией таможенного союза и активизацией переговоров о безвизовом режиме.

Ранее 10 июля Йенс Столтенберг заявил, что Турция согласилась на прием Швеции в НАТО в кратчайшие сроки. В Турции раскрывать сроки рассмотрения заявки Швеции в НАТО отказались.

Швеция подала заявку на членство в НАТО в 2022 году вместе с Финляндией на фоне начала российской специальной военной операции на территории Украины. Вступление затянулось из-за акции сожжения Корана в Стокгольме. Турция раскритиковала это, затормозив процесс. Голос Анкары в этом вопросе решающий, поскольку по регламенту все страны блока должны одобрить кандидатуру будущего члена организации.
